Meet some of our ponies...
Pumpkin was bought especially for RDA and has proved herself a real star. She is a Welsh cross standing at 13.3 hands and is approaching her 17th Birthday. Pumpkin has a wonderful active walk which is essential for the physical benefits of riding. She is reliable and responsive with a lovely, rhythmically smooth ride. She excels at the RDA Countryside Challenge competitions - this year winning a first and second place at the RDA National Championships.
Baloo is not your usual RDA horse, standing over 16.3 hands high and is a thoroughbred so quite finely built. He was originally bred as a point-to-pointer but was a little timid over the fences so retired early from the racetrack.
His calm and gentle nature make him a firm favourite on the yard being a complete gentleman in and out of the stable.
He is a smooth and responsive ride giving confidence to nervous riders.
Bluey is an absolute gem. He is a Connemara cross pony, about 13.1 hands and about 19 years young. His slight build makes him ideal for our riders with tight thigh muscles and limited hip movement.
He is very calm and reliable especially off the lead rein so is great for our riders wanting to ride more independently. He enjoys a good roll in the field especially if he can find a muddy patch!
Introducing our newest addition to the team - Ali or, more formally, Libra Royal Gem. She is an extremely generous gift from a local family having taken their young daughter from complete beginner to a talented dressage rider. It is their wish that she goes somewhere where she will give confidence and enjoyment to other children - something she is assured of doing at Belvoir Vale RDA.
She has settled into her new home very well and is an absolute poppet with a very friendly nature. She is 12.2hh , 13 years old and a lovely calm but responsive ride. We are sure she will help our more able riders that wish to ride more independently and possibly have a go at RDA dressage competitions.
Karen Thompson of Kesteven RDA has kindly loaned Roma to our Group. He is a super pony who has already been a wonderful help to many riders over the years. At 14hh he is the perfect height for some of our older children to ride. He is really reliable and gentle, and has a fan club among riders and volunteers.
