About Us
Belvoir Vale RDA is a small and friendly new riding for the disabled charity situated in the village of Colston Bassett in Nottinghamshire. We aim to provide a much-needed community resource for disabled children and adults living in the local area. The Group is based at Belle Vue Stables, a riding school and livery yard run by instructor, Abi Walker. Abi is supported by fellow coach, Tara Seniuk, and Lesley Davies who is a qualified County Coach for the North Midlands RDA. We rely heavily on our dedicated team of volunteers and we're always on the lookout for new helpers.
We encourage volunteers from all backgrounds and support them to make the most of their experience with us. We offer placements for people completing their Duke of Edinburgh Awards, Pony Club Achievement badges and we are part of the Youth Equestrian Leaders Award (YELA) - a scheme run on behalf of the British Equestrian Federation (BEF) which is a great way to reward our younger volunteers.
Riding sessions are held with a small number of riders, currently catering for both children and adults up to 12 stone in weight. All of our riders have shown great improvements in muscle tone, improved balance and co-ordination whilst gaining in confidence. They seem to relish the opportunity to develop that special relationship between horse and rider.
Several of our riders have competed at both Regional and National RDA competitions, even winning rosettes at the RDA National Championships in Hartpury, Gloucestershire. During the summer holidays we hold Summer Schools where our riders come together and participate in joint activities such as Horse Care, Arts and Crafts, Treasure Hunts and simple gymkhanas.
We have a wonderful selection of ponies and horses, Pumpkin, Bluey, Ali, Roma and big Baloo, please visit Belle Vue Stables to meet them. You could even help to support them by joining our Champion a Pony Scheme. Our Group is backed by a Board of Trustees, all local ladies who are passionate about the health and wellbeing benefits of riding for people with disabilities. The Board includes a parent, coaches and a number of experienced professionals from the business world.
